Midtown Footbridge

The OECA supports the proposed mid-town footbridge that would serve as an east-west link over the Rideau Canal and connect the communities of Old Ottawa East and the Glebe, as well as the larger city.

On November 17th, The city of Ottawa hosted their second open house for the proposed footbridge. Click here for full details and to participate in a city survey.

To learn more about the proposal, visit the Rideau Canal Crossing Blog, and the Support Ottawa's Midtown Footbridge page on Facebook.

Main Street Visioning and Revitalization

You can download a PDF of the survey from the committee working on a vision for Main Street. Completed surveys can be sent to the Old Town Hall address above.

Traffic

Aside from fighting highway expansions which would harm Ottawa East such as the Alta Vista Corridor and Queensway widening, the community association worked with the city in 2000 to develop a neighbourhood plan to calm traffic, to make the neighbourhood safer and more livable. The text from the 2000 Main Street Transportation and Streetscaping Report can be downloaded here (370K in pdf format). We continue to work to see its recommendations implemented.

Beginning in 2008 the NCC has initiated a study of safe pedestrian crossings for Queen Elizabeth Drive and Colonel By Drive. The report from the first workshop can be downloaded (note this is a pdf document and is over 1 meg in size)in English or French.
